Petherton Carnival 2011 did not take place. The cancellation
of the parade this year was a very emotional decision made by
the committee on Carnival day on the
advice
of the police and emergency services following the horrific
incident on the M5 the previous night. With the motorway
closed it would have been impossible to also
close
the A38 for our event and in respect of the victims of the
crash it would have been inappropriate to do so.
Our
thoughts are with those who lost their lives or loved ones and
the injured.
We
plan to hold next years carnival as usual, God willing, and it
will be on
Saturday
November
10th 2012.
We
have, of course, lost a great deal of money which had already
been spent preparing for our 2011 Carnival and we
need
to
raise as much as possible to
ensure the event for 2012.
Apart
from financial support the committee is desperately seeking
more people to help on Carnival
day
or on the Carnival Committee - if you have
some time available do please let us know.
Without
strong assistance from the local community the event will not
take place.
